A Single Guy Dances Tango

More Than Dance... Life Dances

Argentine Tango’s International Allure

Dancing Argentine Tango in the Raleigh, North Carolina area seems like a mini United Nations of sorts. Many international dancers visit the area and dance tango. For its size, the Raleigh-Durham area also has a very large resident cosmopolitan population attracted by excellent universities and large corporate facilities in medicine and technology.

At a milonga (tango dance) it is not unusual to have dancers originally from a dozen or more countries in South America, Europe, and Asia.  There are also many good American born dancers in attendance, but the cosmopolitan dancers who reside in the area are often in the majority.

In the short time that I have been a part of the Raleigh-Durham tango community, I have seen several foreign dancers come and go due to school and job transfers. For these international dancers in the area for a period of time, the tango dances are a place to relax and bond socially through the language of tango. Our tango community is greatly enriched by their presence during their U.S. visit.
